Integrating Gender Equality into Construction Courses

Construction VET programmes can attract and support more female students by using inclusive learning materials, showcasing successful women in construction, and highlighting the wide range of career opportunities available in the industry. These opportunities extend beyond traditional site work and include roles such as Project Management, Digital Construction, and Building Information Modelling (BIM), which may appeal to students interested in technology, innovation, or leadership. Teachers can promote gender equality by encouraging all students to participate equally in practical activities, using group projects and hands-on learning, and creating a respectful and supportive learning environment. Providing female role models and mentors can also help build confidence and encourage more women to enrol in and complete construction training programmes.
