Action-Oriented Learning Outcomes

After completing this short, focused mini-course, the learner will be able to:

LO1: Identify at least four distinct green career roles in the construction industry beyond traditional trades.

LO2: Describe the main responsibilities and key skills (1 technical, 1 holistic) required for two of these roles.

LO3: Design your own Career Plan! Choose one green career path and outline two hands-on steps you can take to learn more about it.

Hand-on steps examples:

  • Job Shadowing or Informational Interview: To spend a day with a professional in the field or schedule a short online chat to ask about their daily work, skills, and career journey.

  • Webinars or Online Courses: To join a free or low-cost webinar/course on sustainable construction technologies or green building practices.

  • Site Visits or Open Days: To visit a construction site, research center, or company working on sustainable projects to see how theory meets practice.

  • Professional Associations or Student Networks: To attend an event or connect with a sustainability-focused construction group to start building your network.

  • Hands-on Project or Workshop: To take part in a local workshop or DIY activity that applies sustainable construction techniques.
